Living in a city with the worlds longest skating rink, also officially designated as a world heritage site, the transition from skating on the pavement to skating on ice seemed almost natural. So now, we are happy to introduce the Benmore Blade.
The superior quality stainless steel Benmore Blade (BMB’s) simply replaces the wheels on your skateboard or longboard. No special tools or hardware required, the skates are compatible with both longboard and skateboard trucks. Now you can literally skate everywhere you find ice.
Benmore Blades now available:
$95.00 (set of 4 blades)

FAQ’s:
Q – “What do you put on your push foot so you don’t slip while skating on ice?”
A – There are plenty of stores where you can purchase a rubber slipper you put on your foot with metal spikes on the bottom. They are specifically designed for traction on ice. They are sold in pairs leaving you a back up in case the one on your push foot either breaks, or gets lost. They range in price from a few dollars to twenty plus dollars, the best ones we’ve found so far are in the mid range ($10 – $12).
Unfortunately we haven’t had any luck with suppliers as of yet, so we can’t include them with the blades. However, we will be producing a comprehensive video in the coming weeks and will combine that with a list of the best non-slip shoes along with the stores that carry them.
Q – “Does the snow damage the trucks or longboard when skating on ice?”
A – Personally speaking, I have been using the same trucks for the past two years in both summer and winter and haven’t found any issues as far as damage goes other then the regular wear and tear. The salt they lay on the streets is what will kill your trucks in a season, so as long as the board goes from my hand to the ice I expect to get another year out of my trucks and that’s only because I can get pretty rough with my equipment. Protecting them from water is never a bad idea and I will periodically clean and lubricate them when necessary.
Also, because the skates glide on the ice, there is very little snow being kicked up to the board. Usually whatever snow does get on, it’s from the push foot and even then it’s insignificant.
The one thing you DO have to watch out for, is the claws from the rubber slippers when stepping back onto the board after pushing. I’ve modified my slippers so that I only have two and sometimes 4 cleats on the spot where I push most efficiently (under my toes/upper part of the ball of the foot) and when I step back onto the board, I hang my toes over the edge so the claws aren’t touching.
Q – “How do you sharpen the blades?”
A – Any ice skate shop that has the sharpener should be able do it for you, and because the blades are half the size of regular ice skates, they will almost always charge half price. Or at least you can negotiate the cost of sharpening.
Here’s a couple of reviews:
Jesse Kelly - Got the blades yesterday and tried them out. they work just like you’d expect. My one concern was the snow on the canal, but since the blades slide as opposed to wheels which spin nothing gets kicked up. and my deck stayed bone dry. got stopped about 12 times to explain what the hell i was doing. had a blast. thank you, thank you, and thank you again…… i heart these things so F%&#($*#@ hard. theyre amazing. you should probably get some if you live in ottawa. i havent used my skates since.
Ryan Lee Palmer - Awesome riding last night! Thanks.
Lucie Rezankova - I tried the Benmore Blades today and it was awesome, it’s great to know you can longboard in winter, it works!!! LOVES IT !
Jessica Jane Palmer West - Had the raddest time ever riding the blades on the canal on sunday, i was having withdrawal symptoms from not longboarding in the Gatineau hills and i was cursing the snow…until i switched wheels for blades!
super stoked i am and cant wait to get out again

Tim Hutcheon – WOW!!! Jamie just set me up tonight with my Benmore Blades!!! It was awesome boarding along the canal in Ottawa. He even showed me how to do a power slide stop! I need some practice but hey – I am 46 years old! Now you can surf on a frozen wave You need a gripper for your push foot. Wear a brain bucket just in case. I wanna see all you young dudes out there next winter – no excuses! Skate on!!!
